East, West, or Central Harlem: Which is Right for You?

Explore the rich, culturally diverse parts of Harlem

Harlem is one of the hottest places in New York right now. This up-and-coming neighborhood is one of America’s cultural centers. The home of the Harlem Renaissance and many world-renowned artists and culturally significant figures, the future of Harlem is bright, with expected job growth and new real estate coming to the area.

Harlem is an incredible place for music, art, culture, food, and nightlife, but each neighborhood in Harlem has its own distinct quality, such as East Harlem’s Latin-inspired vibe, West Harlem’s architecture, and Central Harlem’s rich cultural history. Before you make the move to this fantastic area, you should consider which part of Harlem will fit you best. Here, we’ve laid out which area is right for you: East, West, or Central Harlem.

East

East Harlem is an amazing place. Here you’ll find incredible Latin and Caribbean-influenced food and culture alongside some of the best New York pizza in all the five boroughs. If art and culture are your thing, East Harlem is the place to be. The neighborhood is home to the Graffiti Hall of Fame, as well as El Museo del Barrio, a museum showcasing the works of artists of color, and the Museum of the City of New York.

West

Just north of Morningside Heights is West Harlem. Home to 125th Street, the cultural hub of the Harlem area, West Harlem is a great place to live and explore. Here you’ll find the popular Apollo Theater alongside incredible nightlife and amazing eateries. West Harlem is also home to Columbia University and the world-famous Cotton Club.

Central

Stretching from beyond the northern end of Central Park to the Harlem River, Central Harlem is a vibrant and cultural place to live. Full of history and beautiful architecture, you can find gorgeous townhomes next to new condominiums. Central Harlem has great access to Central Park, and is home to some of the best music in the entire city.
